Vital Statistics and Population Estimates is a quarterly report on the total and resident population estimate based on vital events of birth and deaths plus net migration data derived from tourism migration data. It also reports on the various vital events such as births, deaths and marriages. Some basic demographic crude rates such as for birth, death and infants deaths including natural increase are also reported in this release.

Quarterly change
In the June 2019 quarter compared with the March 2019 quarter:
- Cook Islands Total Population estimates stood at 20,200 for June quarter 2019. This is 12.2% (2,200 people) more when compared to March quarter 2019 (18,000).
- Resident population was estimated at 17,100 for June quarter 2019. This is 5.6% (900 people) more when compared to March quarter 2019 (16,200).
- Total births recorded for June quarter 2019 was 65. This averages to five births per week. The majority of babies are born to women aged 25-29 (20 births) for June quarter 2019, followed by women in the age group 20-24 (16 births).
- Total number of deaths recorded for this quarter was 23 and average of two deaths per week. There were no infant deaths registered for this quarter. This number do not reflect deaths of Cook Islanders occurring abroad.
- The total crude birth rates (births per 1,000 populations) gradually increased to 3.8 from 2.6, averaging to four births to every thousand population. The total crude death rate for the June quarter 2019 was estimated at 1.3 per thousand populations.
- Total marriages officiated for this quarter was 147 showing an increase of 28.9% (33 marriages) when compared to previous quarter (114 marriages). Of these marriages, 93% were non-residents and 7% were residents.
