Total arrivals for the month of February 2021 was 410 of which 62 were Cook Islanders living overseas and 348 are returning Cook Islanders and work permit holders. Since April 16th 2020, Cook Islands declared "as a COVID-19 free zone, since April 16th 2020" however, the escalating threat of the pandemic has forced countries to close their borders.
On the 19th of January 2021, an extra flight was added to make two international flights a week, there continued to be exemptions applied to the border closure to allow Cook Islanders and work permit holders to return to Rarotonga. Passengers must undergo a COVID-19 test within 96 hours of their flight departing Auckland, return a negative result, and complete a health clearance exit process at the Auckland International Airport.
The total departures for February 2021 was 744 of which 572 were Cook islands Residents who left for Temporary offshore seasonal contract, Education, short term, or permanently.
