Total arrivals for the month of October 2020 was 102 of which 26 were Cook Islanders living overseas and 76 are returning Cook Islanders. A total number of 147 departures left for a short term or permanently. Since April 16th this year, Cook Islands declared "as a COVID-19 free zone" however the escalating threat of the pandemic COVID-19 has forced countries to continue to close their borders.
With one international flight a week, there are exemptions applied to the border closure that allows all Cook Islanders and work permit holders to return to Rarotonga. They must undergo a COVID-19 test within 96 hours of their flight departing Auckland, return a negative result, and complete a health clearance exit process at the Auckland International Airport.
