Major Projects and Procurement Support Division

The Major Projects and Procurement Support Division within the Ministry of Finance and Economic
Management are looking for a dynamic experienced individual who is interested in the following
position.

Project Adviser

The Project Adviser is a junior role who will be responsible for supporting the management of the Tarai
Vaka Process (TVP) activity management cycle. TVP is a set of processes, guides and templates that
aim to ensure projects in the Cook Islands are planned, executed and assessed successfully.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Project Management or similar

Required Skills:

  • Analytical skills and an ability to apply logic to complex issues
  • Track record in successful stakeholder engagement
  • Advanced communication skills, oral and written both in Cook Islands Maori and English

The MFEM Economic Planning Division are looking for two experienced individuals to join the team as a Senior Policy Advisor & Economic Development Strategy Coordinator

The Cook Islands Government is offering a rare opportunity for two talented people to contribute to the economic development strategy through these exciting vacancies located in Avarua, Rarotonga.

The Senior Policy Advisor is a newly created policy role with a focus on a competitive market environment focused on reducing barriers to a market-led economy. The ideal candidate will have some understanding of economics and/or drafting legislation and policy for that market environment. Regulatory and project management experience in the public sector would also be an advantage.

The Economic Development Strategy Coordinator is a newly created role with a focus on coordinating and providing Economic Development Strategic 2030 technical programme expertise on behalf of the Policy Team and be collectively accountable for delivering its strategic objectives.

Senior Tax Auditor

  • Have experience in VAT/GST and Income Tax assessment, auditing, taxpayer interviews and case management, at a senior level.
  • Has a tertiary qualification in accounting or another related area.
  • Has a high level of literacy in business accounts and risk assessment for tax purposes, advanced skills in computer and data processing, competent doing own research and analysis, time management and effective communication.
  • Have a high level of knowledge and understanding of Cook Islands and/or New Zealand taxation policy and commercial structures.
  • Has the ability to develop and mentor staff and administer task schedules.
