Dealing with Regional and International Organisations

MFEM is a central agency and is therefore responsible for coordinating national events or activities which involve dealing with external organisations.

The Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Centre (PFTAC)

The Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Center (PFTAC) was established in Fiji in 1993 to provide technical advice and capacity building to 15 Pacific island countries (PICs). The Center is operated by the IMF in consultation with the governments of the PICs and the donors supporting it. The recent Steering Committee Meeting (March 20-21, 2006) endorsed PFTAC’s current work program for FY06-08, which is fully funded.

The Pacific Financial Management Association (PIFMA)

The Pacific Financial Management Association (PIFMA) has been established following an inaugural conference of Pacific Island public financial management practitioners, held in Suva in late March 2006. The conference unanimously endorsed the establishment of a forum where the public financial management policy and administration issues most relevant to Pacific Island Countries (PICs) could be discussed, technical capacity developed and collaboration promoted in progressing implementation of sound public financial management (PFM) across the region.
