New Zealand has pledged to contribute around $7.6 million over the next year in bilateral assistance for development in the Cook Islands. In addition, Australia’s annual contribution (AU$2.2 million) to the Cook Islands is administered by New Zealand through a delegated cooperation arrangement.
New Zealand signed a Grant Funding Agreement with the Cook Islands Government in 2016 moving from the prior 'forward aid programme' to á new budget support modality, this is aimed at improving effectiveness in delivery. which is monitored through an annual programme review report.
Planning and allocation of funds over the next year is managed in a document referred to as the which is approved by cabinet and overseen by the National Sustainable Development Commission.
